Hi, I’m Sam, a snowboarder and coach with over 15 years of teaching experience, based in Niseko since 2017 and still loving every day on snow.
I’ve taught across the UK, Europe, Canada, Australia and Japan, working with riders of all ages and abilities across regular lessons, freeride, park and pipe, and snowboard cross. I currently spend my Australian winters coaching with a development team in park and pipe, which keeps me riding all year-round.
My goal as an instructor is simple, to make every day on the mountain fun while helping you become a better, more confident rider. Whether you're taking your first turns, chasing powder or looking to progress your freestyle, I’ll tailor the experience to what you want to get out of your time on snow.
I’ve also spent many seasons exploring and guiding around Niseko and the surrounding resorts, and have professional guiding, first aid and rescue qualifications. I love sharing my favourite terrain and helping guests experience what makes Hokkaido so special.
When I’m not teaching, you’ll usually find me chasing powder, riding the park, exploring somewhere new, or riding with my friends, wife and daughter. I’ve spent most of my life around snow, and I still love it just as much as I did when I started.

Sam has taken care of my kids for three Niseko seasons now and he is hands down the best out there. Beyond his technical teaching, he is also extremely patient, fun and trustworthy and we have seen great progress in the kids over the years. You will not find any better in Niseko!!

Had an amazing time snowboarding with Sam as our coach. He made every session super fun and chill while still helping us improve a lot. Riding powder with him was insane, and the jumps were an absolute blast. He gave great tips, hyped everyone up, and created such a fun vibe on the mountain. Honestly one of the best snowboarding experiences I’ve had, i would 100% recommend him to anyone!

We’ve ridden with Sam for three years and he’s genuinely one of the best instructors you can find in Niseko. He knows where all the nice powder and niche tracks are, his knowledge of the slopes unmatched. Not only does he take us to fun places, he is also an amazing instructor who is patient and has a genuine passion for the sport. An extra bonus is he knows where all the good food places are 😋. Riding with him is a 10/10 experience every time!
