With multiple seasons teaching under my belt and a genuine stoke for the slopes, I'm super happy to be teaching in Rusutsu this winter. Beyond the shredding, I'm happy to help make your stay in Hokkaido as smooth as possible. I can provide lifts to Rusutsu from Niseko or other nearby towns (for full day bookings - message me to check availability) and share tips on my favourite spots.

Bio

My teaching style is all about reassurance and building confidence. Whether you're just getting started, looking to refine your technique or simply want to know the best places to send it through the trees, I'm here to help. I understand that everyone learns at their own pace, and my approach is patient, encouraging, and tailored to your individual needs and goals. That said, I've got a structured approach to lessons that'll help you progress - and I'm always ready to throw in a fun challenge if you're up for it!

I also have solid experience teaching kids, having worked in the kids pod at Thredbo ski school in Australia. I know how to create a fun, safe environment where young skiers can develop their skills while building a lifelong love for the sport.

As an English-speaking instructor, I can clearly communicate techniques and safety information, ensuring you get the most out of every lesson. Whether you're here for a single session or planning to ski with me throughout your holiday, I'm committed to helping you progress, have fun, and make some unforgettable memories on Hokkaido's world-class powder.

Had such a fun ski lesson with Jack! The tree runs were amazing, and learned a lot in a short time. We even skipped lunch/coffee break but didn’t notice because I was having such a good time.

Our family would once again like to extend our sincere thanks to Jack Reid. This is our fourth year being fortunate enough to secure his time during the busy ski season, and it has truly been both a privilege and a pleasure. Jack has guided us from shaky beginners on green slopes to confidently tackling more challenging terrain, including the occasional black run. He has been especially supportive of our youngest daughter, who sometimes lacks confidence. The skills and encouragement he has given her have not only improved her skiing, but have also had a positive impact on her confidence at school and in other activities. Jack’s light-hearted humour and infectious enthusiasm kept everyone engaged and motivated. He is exceptional at teaching groups with mixed abilities, providing clear instructions, closely observing technique, and offering practical, actionable feedback. He also encourages us to explore slopes we would never have considered on our own. Combined with his excellent knowledge of Niseko and Rusutsu, this makes him the ideal instructor for anyone looking to go beyond the usual runs. We very much look forward to booking Jack again next year.

Jack is exemplary as a ski instructor. Responsiveness and clarity of information before the lesson was excellent. Jack made sure to understand our specific goals for the lesson to make sure he could deliver what we asked, and he was (extraordinarily) quick to revert with our original outreach and subsequent questions. The lesson itself was well-planned and executed, combining techniques, theory, and practice into a thoughtful lesson which delivered what we had asked for (specifically, off-piste introduction) and gave us the confidence to take the next step in our skiing progress. As an instructor Jack is approachable, positive, and easy to communicate with, with a solid foundation of experience and knowledge. He made us feel at ease while also being careful to detail areas for improvement in our technique and skill set. Overall we were thoroughly impressed with Jack and would recommend him wholeheartedly
